Laura Garavaglia
Şiirden, 2018
Translation from Italian to Turkish by Nicola Verderame

Laura Garavaglia’s poetry is narrative. Her poetics involve using poetry to solve certain problems she encounters and to convey her poetic thoughts on these issues to others. She doesn’t limit life to just the world; she sees it on a broader, universal scale, suggesting the shared aspects between the movements of stars and planets in the universe and human life.

For example, in a poem where she grapples with the concept of time, she says that one day time will also run out, that a person will vanish into nothingness, and that time will end like an unsolved formula. Then, she makes a return to daily life: “The faint star of morning / steals the adventure from its days.”

She looks at things from a broad perspective. We mentioned “like unsolved formulas” above. This phrase is from a line just above the two lines we quoted. And it’s a line that also shows how deeply involved Laura Garavaglia is with mathematics and the importance it holds in her life. For the poet, life is like the heartbeat of the universe. Everything is connected to that heartbeat: the sun, the wind, and our daily lives.

It’s a different voice, a unique kind of poetry. We believe that poetry readers will find it interesting.
