Laura Garavaglia, an Italian poet, was born in Milan in 1956 and currently lives in the city of Como, Italy. She is a poet and journalist who organizes literary and cultural events in Italy. She has come to Vietnam with a sincere and profound love, with the intention of expanding and elevating literary and artistic relations between Vietnam and Italy to a new level, creating opportunities for writers, poets, and literary figures from both countries to interact and understand each other better.
Laura Garavaglia is the founder and manager of “The House of Poetry in Como” (La Casa della Poesia di Como). She is also the co-vice president of the international poetry festival “Europe in Verses” (Europa in versi). In addition, she serves as a judge for the “Europe in Verses” festival and has won the “Antonio Fogazzaro” literary prize.
- Garavaglia’s poetry is warmly received by readers for its concise, simple expression and unique thought and reflection. Her poetry has a deep intellectual reach without being detached from the world; on the contrary, it maintains a fresh and practical core as it delves into topics of everyday life and strives to address the most pressing issues facing the world today, sharing them with the reader.
Note: Her collections include: “Butterflies and Stones” (Farfalle e pietre, 2010), and “The Symmetry of the Kernel” (La simmetria del gheriglio, 2009, 2012, and 2013). Next is the collection “Ascending Currents” (Correnti ascensionali, 2013). This collection won the 2017 Poetry Prize from the European Academy of Sciences, Arts and Literature. “Ascending Currents” was translated into English, French, Spanish, and Romanian, along with subsequent collections like “Numbers and Stars” (Numeri e stelle, 2019) and “The Deep Wrinkle of Life” (La ruga profonda della vita, 2020). Notably, the first collection was re-published multiple times alongside the author.
Currently, Laura Garavaglia is working on an anthology, “The Living Presence of Things” (La presenza viva delle cose) and “The Things That Exist,” which will be printed in multiple languages. A portion of the English translation, titled “Living Things,” was personally selected by the author and directly introduced to Vietnamese readers from the manuscript. This is the very collection of poetry we hold today.
I would like to respectfully introduce to Vietnamese readers this selected anthology by a contemporary Italian poet who writes with great vitality and possesses a way of thinking and feeling in her poetry that is beloved and sought after by many modern European readers.
