The poetic work of Laura Garavaglia is not an established dogma but is a path of creativity. After “The Butterfly of Life” (2009, Premio Luigi for her first book) came “Butterflies and Stones” (2010, Premio Merini), “The Symmetry of the Pearl” (2013, Finalist of the Premio L. Monti), “Selected Treaties” (2013), “Numbers and Stars” (2017), and finally, “The Living Essence of Things” (2019). The author’s books of poetry breathe a twofold…a spiritual path. At the same time, this is not an esoteric journey into the enclosed world of hermetic mysticism but rather an open path to the spiritual images of others. It expands the boundaries of the spiritual world and the soul, giving the reader the opportunity to reflect on a broader vision, a reflection of other dimensions of the imagination. Then, historical reality is no longer just a “harmonization of pearls” (the author’s image, which also gives the name to her book, and which is repeated in numerous spiritual traditions) but a mystical experience that takes on a new strength in synergy with the spontaneous and inspired.

This is exactly what Cesare Pavese sought, defining a specific way of turning from the mundane experience to the existential experience of “living the myth.” In Laura Garavaglia’s poetry, we observe a constant striving to overcome a dualism that is, in essence, black and red, earthly and divine, but at the same time, it is the clearest, most luminous, and brightest opposition that gives a spiritual purpose to a series of psychological pains, through the struggle to denote the spiritual content and to denote the emotional intensity of the space and the surface of the words to be filled with the poetic meaning of the mythical content (the sacred image of childhood and love), through the ironic image of religious images, through the weaving of faith and disbelief in the real power of these images, through the search for salvation in a new, sacred dualism, this is how this poetry works… and a bright driving force that turns the reader to reflections on the countlessness of the Universe and the bright (specifically, poetic) within the human microcosm.
